Play Expo 2014 – The Battle of Thunder Cross 2

So far each year I have been to Play Expo, there has been a battle, a longing, each year myself and a friend have tried to beat Thunder Cross 2. Thunder Cross 2 is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up arcade game released by Konami in 1991 and is a direct sequel to the game with the same name Thunder Cross.

Beating this game would seem an easy task you would think, the arcade cabinet games at Play Expo are free play which means that you normally get unlimited lives, but in the mighty game that is Thunder Cross 2 the final level revokes this status and gives you a limited amount of lives to complete it. Of course this final level is also the hardest which means that the enemies that spawn, which is a magnitude more than previous levels, are faster and harder to kill.

Each year we get to this level and its just a massacre with life after life dwindling down til only one of our ships is left, which usually dies just as quick.

If this game returns we will once again be taking the challenge to beat it once and for all. Finally getting it off of my bucket list and consigning it to the scrapheap of games that used to taunt me time and time again.

Thunder Cross 2 is not an amazing game by any stretch of the word, there is no reason for me to complete it other than this annoying feeling to not get beaten by a game!
