AKRacing Octane Gaming Chair Review

Up Close

During the build, I didn’t actually take any photographs. I did take a video however (which is below) As a slight warning there is a bit of swearing.

For those not able to see the video the basic steps are outlined below (as written in the guide)

  • Fix wheels to the base
  • Attach gas lift
  • Affix chair lift mechanism to base of seat
  • Affix seat base to gas lift
  • Struggle to get the backrest attached to the base
  • Attach plastic covers
  • Add support pillows if wanted

Otherwise you can look at these nice pictures direct from the AK Racing site, I can confirm that the seat I received, is exactly the same although the images do not show the additional back rest and head rest pillows that are included.

The whole seat is made from PU Leather which makes it nice and easy to clean, as you can simply wipe the surface down.

The Arm rests have several heights, which can be selected with the buttons underneath.

Much like a car seat the back rest can tilt by quite a way thanks to a lever on the right hand side of the chair. This is sprung, so that when you want to sit back up it will just return upright.

Testing

As you can imagine the next step in this review was to test it. Which meant getting comfortable. I know AKRacing have waited a while for this review and for good reason.

I wanted to get the most time with the chair to really get a feel for any problems, especially with the chair costing a shade over £200  (£229 from OverClockers.co.uk)  it won’t be an impulse purchase for most.

I have to say, it has so far checked all the boxes that I would want from a chair and the tilt option has claimed many snoozes. In fact, it is a very nice feature to be able to tilt the chair back and have it lock in place.

The additional lumbar support pillow does its duty admirably, although the included headrest seemed to be a bit out of reach for me and not much use in practice unless I was purposefully leaning on it.

The build quality is very good with the whole chair being very weighty and offering excellent support and ease of movement.
