Ducky Mini Keyboard Review

Actual Testing….

As said I personally don’t see this keyboard as much of one for gaming, however I certainly used the Ducky Mini for this purpose. There are camps out there that would say Cherry MX Blue key switches are not the best for gaming. This is due to the reset point of the switch being higher than the actual actuation point on the travel, in some circumstances I would agree. If you are making lots of actuations then it may be slightly noticeable but most people are not going to notice in the slightest.

When I was gaming on the Ducky Mini, it certainly didn’t feel any different in the spacing or how it reacted overall, and with the four large rubber nubbins (feet) on the underneath the keyboard did not slip around at all whilst I was using it.  With the FPS games I tend to play relying mainly on the number row rather than F keys, I did not encounter any issues at all.

As a daily driver the Ducky Mini was again solid, although not quite perfect in my eyes. Firstly it does not have any adjustable feet on the base and whilst it is angled ever so slightly to raise the rear this lack of adjustability is a tad annoying. The curved front is very nice when typing, however I would advise on the use of a separate wrist rest to avoid discomfort. Some will also find the use of a proprietary case annoying as it makes the chance of replacing it practically impossible compared to alternatives such as the KBT Poker.

The integration of the USB port on the side as well whilst adding to the issues to change the case, is a nice addition as it will help to reduce the stress on the USB connector itself which on 60% style keyboards as well as other mechanical keyboards is often seen as a weak point.

The dual colour LEDs are really impressive and bright, and whilst not having as comprehensive in backlighting options as its bigger brothers the Mini makes great use of the LED’s overall, and it will more than likely be something Ducky expand on in future FW updates.

The mouse emulation was simple to use, and nicely laid out on the keyboard. It will no doubt be some thing that I feel anyone used to gaming on a keyboard will be able to pick up fairly quickly, although it is certainly no means a replacement for a mouse itself.
