Mistel Barocco MD 650L – Review

Conclusion

I was really impressed by the Barocco MD650L I’ve used it solidly for about 2 weeks now. I have pretty much retired my Ducky Year of the Snake to make way for this compact and beautiful keyboard.

The build quality is absolutely brilliant, the CNC aluminium keyboard really offers a substantial feel. Which plays well with the thinness of the keyboard itself.

The use of ML key switches is a bit of a weird choice, considering their age, but Mistel have put together a keyboard that works well, all things considered the ML1A in use here is the lowest profile version of the switch which helps keep it nice and compact.

Considering this added portability, I would have liked to have seen some kind of sleeve or bag for transporting the MD650L.

You would think using a split keyboard like the MD650L would be a tough thing to get used to. And you would be wrong, it’s surprising how simple it becomes to separate your hand movements to each half and in doing so begin to type that little bit faster.

The choice of a straighter and longer cable is a nice change, my previous annoyances with the coiled one is that the MD600 was not heavy enough to stop the cable pulling the two halves closer. This is a bit of a moot point on the 650L due to the CNC aluminium chassis, so I would have liked to have seen it included as an option for those that wanted on.

Overall the MD650L is a solidly built and well-designed keyboard that will probably out last any others you buy. I am happy to give it a DavePlays.co.uk Silver Award!

I’ve enjoyed using it and I have to thank Mistel for letting me take a look.
