Jelly Comb – Alien 5 Port Desk Charger – Review

In Practice

When the Jelly Comb charger turned up, I was initially a bit underwhelmed and I actually expected the blue light to be an addition to the rest of the annoyingly bright devices in my room.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the light itself was actually pretty dim, you also have the ability to turn it off if it still seems bright to you.

I was however looking forward to seeing just how fast it would charge my Umi Z Pro and other devices and If it would have any issues when all ports were in use.

Plugged in on its own, the Jelly Comb 5 – port charger managed to charge my device from 50% to full in just over 1 ½ hours. This was when plugged into one of the smart ports.

I borrowed a fairly flat Samsung Galaxy S8 and it was nearing fully charged in just over 2 hours, unfortunately it couldn’t be left on to fully test, and it was in use whilst on charge at the time. This was when plugged into the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 port.

Since then, it has had 5 devices plugged in pretty consistently, and I actually have it powering a small 5 Port switch and a HDMI splitter. So far since plugging them in, none of them have shown any issues (both devices have a working input range that falls inside the 5V range)

It has also been the primary charging point for my console controllers and again, they have been charged flawlessly.

I would actually like to say that the Jelly Comb charger helped me diagnose a poorly grounding cable that I had been using for a while. It was a weird issue that only occurred when the phone was charging from a fast charger with this particular cable.

The Jelly Comb charger itself is a bit light and can be quite easily moved if you have a stiff or short cable charging your devices. I would have liked for it to have been a bit heavier to stop it from moving so easily.
