Logitech G610 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Testing

With the software out-of-the-way and my preferred lighting mode enabled it was on to the real testing.

Primarily a gaming keyboard, as touted by Logitech. The G610 is a really solid keyboard, like many other mechanical keyboards I have reviewed, once you get used to the textured key caps.

I did notice that the key caps themselves are remarkably thin. You can see in the image below from left to right we have the Logitech key cap, a Cherry OEM key cap  and a Ducky Shine 5 keycap.

You can see that the Logitech keyboard is noticeably thinner and has a less than beefy stem. This can sometimes lead to a less than precise typing feel over time as well as a less than secure fit to the key caps.

I do like the fact they painted over a white key cap however, as this helps to reflect light back to the keyboards metal plate and gives better spread of light.

Gaming with the Logitech G610 was no fuss, even more so after setting up a some macros in the software. The keys responded perfectly throughout my gaming session and I happy with how it felt.

I do like the dedicated media controls especially the volume control because it offers a far simpler and more precise way to control the volume. The other controls were mostly untouched otherwise apart from the mute button occasionally.

The typing experience? I have to say it mirrors the many other Cherry MX brown keyboards I have used, which is what I expected. It’s hard to offer anything different in this department when using the same switch.

This means there is a nice tactile feeling to the keys and as long as you are not too heavy-handed (like me) they can be really quiet. However, if you are a bit heavy-handed expect to hear the space bar above all the other keys, as it sounds a bit like an old-fashioned typewriter when hit.

I have to say I really like the material and feel of the Logitech G610 Orion, the textured key caps feel nice to type and game on even though I feel they will succumb to shining quickly over time.

The textured finish to the top of the keyboard also does what it says on the tin as over my use it has not been marked by fingerprints at all.  The shiny edges do pick up dust awfully though.
